On June 16, 2018, Sr. Marilyn N. Cula, AR, the vicar general and supervisor of the foreign missions, flew to Australia for her fraternal visit to the sisters in St. Ezekiel Moreno Convent, Doonside, New South Wales, Australia.
Her first program of activity was the installation of Sr. Jeana Abejuela, AR as the new superior of the community. During the ceremony, she admonished the community to show loving concern to every single member adding that the distance between the two continents (the Philippines and Australia) should be enough reason for them to be generous with their time and efforts towards each other.
Besides the community dialogue, she also conducted individual conferences to listen the ‘stories’ of each sister. She gathered all the employees in the Nursing Home and listened to their personal ‘stories’ as well. As she moved from one resident to another, she empowered them all with her prayers, her infectious laughter and good sense of humor.
The three weeks that she spent with the sisters in the Australian mission, she dutifully participated in the daily routine of the sisters. From the early recitation of lauds and the Eucharist, to the actual marketing and making the rounds of the residents in the nursing home, doing the laundry and other household chores in the convent, she realized that her day to day schedule in the Mother house is nothing compared to the rigors in the mission down under. God bless our missionaries!
Sr. Marilyn Cula also made a point to meet the Filipino community in the area. The group called themselves the ‘Our Lady of Fatima’ group. Among the various activities that they do is the recitation of the Holy Rosary every Monday in the convent.
The same group gathered for the farewell party for Sr. Ruth Gulane, the outgoing superior who was given a new assignment in the Philippines as the superior of Tahanang Talangpaz in Tagaytay City.
